Northern Ireland’s premier road race competition – the Pure Running Half Marathon Series – will be bigger and better than ever as it enters its sixth year.

Pure Running are the chief sponsors along with ChampionChip Ireland, Ward Sports Management and Athletics NI for the event which has grown every year.

In 2009 there were six races attracting just over 5,600 entrants, while last year there were 10 races with just short of 9,000 – 18 runners completed all 10.

The series is divided into two sections of five races with runners having to complete at least three in each with accumulative times determining the final placing.

There is a big prize structure with £200, £100 and £50 for the first three in ladies and men’s and all the main age groups.

To date, two runners have taken part in all 37 races since the series began. Angus McCready from Up And Runners of Antrim, and East Down’s Michael McKeown who is a regular category winner.

The series opens on March 16 with the Dune Cross Border Half Marathon between Newry to Dundalk.
