Antrim made a perfect start to their Division III campaign with a narrow defeat of Cavan at Casement Park on Sunday.

Cavan led 1-5 to 0-7 at half-thanks to a point from David Givney.

In a dramatic finish, Antrim just about held on for a narrow win despite Gearóid McKiernan’s best efforts for Cavan and having midfielder McVeigh sent off for a late red card offence.

Fermanagh and their manager Peter Canavan gained a measure of revenge over rivals Wicklow at Aughrim where the Erne County recorded a very impressive 10-point win over the locals.

Having been beaten by Wicklow in last year’s Division IV final, Fermanagh turned the tables with a brilliant first half showing, which saw them lead by 0-11 to 0-3 at half-time.

On Saturday, Tyrone marked their return to life in Division I of the Allianz Football League with a solid win over Ulster rivals Down in Newry.

Both sides were reduced to 14 men, and struck second-half goals within a minute of each other, in a competitive contest.

A superb first half performance from Laois was enough to see them defeat Armagh, and make a winning start on their return to Division II.
