Stevie Dowds got Banbridge off to a flying start, when he notched up a hat-trick as Bann hammered Grammarians 5-2 in the Eurohockey Champions Challenge in the Czech Republic town of Rakovnik on Friday.

But with both teams locked out at half-time the game burst into life as Bann raced into a 4-0 nil lead.

Dowds gave Bann the perfect start slamming the ball home inside the first minute of the restart.

Five minutes later Dowds doubled his tally and Bann’s. He wasn’t finished as in the 52nd minute he sliced through Grammarians to wrap up his hat-trick.

Shortly after Bann put themselves firmly in the driving seat this time Josh Moffet finding the net with a brilliant effort to make it 4-0.

Grammarians were to grab consolations either side of a William Malcomson strike, the latter scoring his first ever senior goal for the club.

Bann now play SK Slavia Praha on Saturday who drew 2-2 with HAHK Mladost.
