Tyco Suzuki’s Guy Martin had no excuses after finishing as the runner-up to Michael Dunlop in the Superbike TT.

Martin, who was back on the rostrum at the iconic Mountain race for the first time since 2011, crossed the line 20 seconds down on Dunlop and tipped his hat to the Ulster rider afterwards.

“That was a good effort and I really enjoyed it but I suppose it’s another second place,” said Martin, who has now claimed 14 podiums at the TT.

“The bike never missed a beat and the boys did a mega job today, but I have to take my hat off to Michael [Dunlop] as he’s riding well.

“I knew Conor [Cummins] was catching me on the final lap and I actually thought I might have to re-pass Michael on the road and make an extra big effort, but I right enjoyed that. It’s not even dinner time yet, so I suppose we can go do a day’s work now.”

Martin’s team-mate, William Dunlop, finished in sixth place on the GSX-R1000 and set his best ever TT lap of 130.239mph on lap six.

Lincolnshire rider Martin also recorded his quickest lap with a speed of 130.969mph on lap two.

“I really enjoyed it and with that bike and those tyres, that was me – I won’t be going to sleep thinking I could’ve done this or should’ve done that – that was me,” added Martin.

“I could not have done any more and there were moments when the front was sliding.”
