Jonathan Rea leads the World Superbike Championship after clinching a sublime double at Imola on Sunday.

The 27-year-old from Northern Ireland rider was in stunning form on the Pata Honda at the legendary Italian circuit, winning race one after starting from pole position in emphatic style by four and a half seconds from Chaz Davies (Ducati) and defending world champion Tom Sykes (Kawasaki).

Rea - a winner in the previous round at Assen - again had more in reserve in race two as the Honda star wrapped up a brace with Davies again securing the runner-up spot, four seconds in arrears.

French rider Sylvain Guintoli took the final place on the podium ahead of Loris Baz (Kawasaki).

Eugene Laverty finished seventh and ninth on the Voltcom Crescent Suzuki.

Rea now heads the series by four points from Sykes after the first four rounds and will be bursting with confidence ahead of his home race at Donington on May 25.
