The newly elected Mayor of Lisburn, Councillor Andrew Ewing, has launched one of his main charity fundraising events for his charity, Marie Curie Cancer Care. A Motorcycle Run will take place on Saturday 23rd August, in memory of local motorcyclist the late Bruce Moulds. The event is being supported by the Moulds family.

Those participating will depart from Lagan Valley Island on Saturday morning 23rd August at 9am and travel to Newcastle. The party will then return to Lisburn, on motorcycle, via Kilkeel, Rostrevor and Newry. The entry fee is £10 per person.

The Mayor is keen to raise funds for Marie Curie and is encouraging participants to obtain sponsorship forms if they wish to do so, which will be available on the Council website www.lisburncity.gov.uk and from the Mayor’s Office.

The Mayor hopes that fellow riders will join with him to raise money for Marie Curie, and to pay tribute to the late Bruce Moulds who tragically lost his life at the Walderstown Road Races last July.

The Mayor said: “This is a special event for me. It remembers a dear friend and I plan to raise money for a very worthwhile cause. I know how generous the motorcycling fraternity is and I would encourage people participating in the run to seek sponsorship from family, friends and the local community to donate to Marie Curie.

As an added incentive, the Mayor has enlisted the support of both Phillip McCallen, five time winner of the Ulster Grand Prix, and whose business is based at Lissue Industrial Estate, Lisburn, and GS Motorcycles in Hillsborough.

Both of these retailers will be offering special promotions and discounts on the day of the event to participants in the motorcycle ride. The Mayor is delighted both local businesses are supporting the Motorcycle Run, which will involve stops at the motorcycle premises on the route.

“I would like to emphasise that this event will be well marshalled and safety is a top priority to ensure a safe and enjoyable run out for riders. I would be honoured if local motorcycle clubs would join us in this event. Clubs can register members for the Run through my office.” added Councillor Ewing.

If you are interested in participating in this event please contact the Mayor’s Office on 028 9250 9331 or email: mayors.secretary@lisburn.gov.uk In addition, Councillor Scott Carson, Lisburn City Council, is helping to organise the event. Cllr Carson can be contacted on T: 028 9266 1100 or 07947 561137.
