Derek Sheils maintained his lead in the Adelaide Masters series at Mondello Park at the weekend.
On Saturday, CD Racing rider Sheils won the opening Superbike race from Cody Nally by 0.198 seconds after 12 laps, with Lisburn man David Haire taking a close third.
Last year’s double Masters champion, Brian McCormack, finished fourth on his return to the series on a Yamaha R1.
In the first of two Superbike races held yesterday, it was Haire who clinched the top spot as Nally again had to settle for the runner-up spot by a whisker. McCormack improved to third ahead of Sheils, with Damien Byrne fifth.
Nally finally scaled the top step at the National circuit in the third Superbike outing, winning by 3.7 seconds in hand over Sheils.
Haire was back on the podium again in third place followed by McCormack and Byrne.
Ulsterman Haire monopolised the Supersport class with a terrific treble. In Saturday’s Supersport race, he triumphed over Richie Ryan by 1.5 seconds after 10 laps, with Sheils finishing third.
Luke Johnston continues to impress as he finished in fourth followed by Conor Parkhill.
Haire had his work cut out to fend off a determined challenge from Sandown Racing’s Carl Phillips in race two, with only 0.114s between them at the line. Johnston finished on the rostrum in third followed by Ryan and Sheils.
More success followed for Haire in race three as he secured a treble with victory from Sheils by 1.5s with Phillips third.
The final round takes place next month on October 6-7.
