Taylor Mackenzie in Tyco Suzuki Supersport bid

Ulster’s Tyco Suzuki team will return to the British Supersport Championship in 2013 after signing young prospect Taylor Mackenzie.

The young Scotsman’s father Niall is a three-time British Superbike champion who was also part of the Suzuki ‘family’ during his illustrious 500cc Grand Prix career.

Nineteen-year-old Mackenzie stepped up from two-stroke racing to the cut and thrust British Supersport series just this year, ironically scoring his first points at Knockhill in Scotland, and from there he set new goals with every ride.

His finest hour was at the season finale at Brands Hatch where he took a respectable sixth place and he is now looking forward to teaming up with TAS Racing, who are double British Supersport champions having won the title with Michael Laverty and Alastair Seeley in the past.

“I’m really excited to be joining Tyco Suzuki in British Supersport and I can’t wait to get started,” said Mackenzie.

“At the end of the season nothing was really happening but once I’d spoken to Tyco Suzuki and knew there was a deal on the table to ride their championship winning GSX-R600 package, I was so happy.

“They have a lot of experience in the Supersport class and this deal has really given me so much motivation for next season.

“Last year I wasn’t sure what to expect in British Supersport but now that I’ve a year under my belt, my aim is to keep moving forward and hopefully be on the podium as soon as possible.”
