French rider Franck Petricola is expected to make a full recovery following a serious accident at the North West 200.
The 29-year-old, a newcomer to the event, was flown home on Tuesday.
A statement from the NW200 organisers said the Ice Valley BMW rider has been brought out of sedation and is responding well.
Tuesday’s statement read: “Franck Petricola, who crashed during the opening practice session of the 2014 Vauxhall International North West 200, has been flown home to hospital in France today to continue his recovery.
“The 31-year-old, who was riding for the Ice Valley team, was being treated in the intensive care unit of the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast since the crash.
“Over the last few days he was being brought gradually out of sedation and was responding well to the medical team.
“Doctors expect Franck to make a full recovery.”
Petricola was airlifted to hospital following the crash, which occurred at Primrose corner.
