Ryan Farquhar will make his debut at the Classic TT this year as the Irish road racing star joins John McGuinness and Gary Johnson in Roger Winfield’s team.

Farquhar recently announced his plans to come out of retirement to compete in the Supertwin race at the Isle of Man TT in June with new team-mate Keith Amor on the KMR machines, backed by SGS International.

The 37-year-old has now also committed to the Classic TT in August, when he’ll be reunited with the Winfield Paton for the Bennetts 500cc race, with 20-time TT winner McGuinness joining the Ulster star on an identical machine.

The duo are among the favourites for the top spot along with Bedfordshire’s Olie Linsdell, who triumphed in the race last year.

Farquhar and Johnson will also contest the Formula One race at the event on Harris F1 Yamaha 750cc machines.

The Dungannon man, who won the corresponding 500cc race on the Paton at the Manx Grand Prix five times from 2007-2012, told the News Letter: “I’ve never been beat on the Paton there, although Olie [Linsdell] has been the one who’s given me the biggest run for my money in the past.

“He won the race last year so we’ll see what happens. Olie broke my lap record last year but I’m pretty confident that if I can get dialled in and the conditions are right then we’ll be able to give him a run for it.”

Farquhar also revealed he is set to return to the Phillip Island Classic meeting this month as a late replacement in the UK team for Steve Brogan.

Ex-Grand Prix star Jeremy McWilliams will also make the trip down under for the annual event, which takes place from January 24-26.

Cheshire prospect Connor Behan, meanwhile, will ride a 600cc Kawasaki and 650cc Supertwin ER6 for Farquhar at the Irish national road races this year plus the North West 200, Isle of Man TT and Ulster Grand Prix.
