The Bob Smith Spring Cup meeting at Scarborough has been abandoned following a serious accident involving Billy Redmayne.
The Manx rider crashed on Sunday after the feature Spring Cup race had been restarted when Northern Ireland’s Lee Johnston came off his East Coast BMW, suffering a leg injury.
Redmayne (25), from Laxey, has been airlifted to Middlesbrough Hospital.
A statement issued by the organisers on Sunday evening said: “Billy Redmayne, the rider involved in the incident during the Bob Smith Spring Cup Race at Oliver’s Mount, has been airmed to Middlesbrough Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment for his injuries.
“He is now breathing on his own and his condition is improving. Further information will be released when available.”
Redmayne won the Junior Manx Grand Prix last year and is regarded as one of the brightest prospects in the sport.
The organisers opted to abandon the meeting in North Yorkshire due to a lack of medical cover at the course following the incident in the feature race.
It is now intended to run the Spring Cup race at the Cock ’o The North meeting at the same venue in June.
