THE Ulster Rally which once again takes place next summer is to be a double header points scorer in the British Rally Championship Challenge.
NGK Spark Plugs has confirmed that it will continue to support the Challenge in 2013, the ninth year of the MSA British Rally Championship’s successful support series.
The interest for next year’s NGK Spark Plugs BRC Challenge has never been higher, which bodes well for an exciting season ahead.
Apart from adding the classic Scottish Rally, the regulations remain practically unchanged, a minor tweak to the technical regulations making it easier to enter. As in 2012, five rallies will count, but this year there are eight scoring opportunities including the afore mentioned Ulster double-header.
Points and a half on the final round should keep the interest right to the end of the season in the Dorset and Hampshire forests for the Rallye Sunseeker.
Meanwhile, Craig Breen has collected another award after being named Driver of the Year by the Irish Racing Drivers Club.
In attendance at the award ceremony held in London were Irish rally legends, Paddy Hopkirk and Rosemary Smith.
Breen, who secured his second successive world title last month by winning the S2000 category of the FIA World Rally Championship, was presented with the Club’s premier award by the Club chairman, Alec Poole.
“It is a real honour to receive this prestigious award. It was a tough season and to be recognised by the IRDC is very special,” said Breen.
n MULTI World Rally Champion Sebastien Loeb has set himself yet another motorsport target, to compete in the Dakar Rally.
Loeb has never competed in any kind of a rally raid event.
