The 2014 Samdec Security Lakeland Stages Rally 2014 takes place tomorrow, organised by Enniskillen Motor Club it is the only forestry round of the Northern Ireland Championship this year and it is being staged in the Club’s 50th year.
The organisers have put together a terrific rally both in terms of value for money and in terms of the stages on offer with 44 stage miles on the loose covering eight stages some over 10 miles long with no stage used more than twice and some 20% used only once and one stage has not been used in 24 years.
Included in the top entries, three Kellys; fans’ favourite Frank Kelly in his ‘Baby Blue’ Ford Escort Conor in his rapid Nissan plus Donagh Kelly in his Ford Focus WRC.
Coming all the way from Atlanta, USA is Patsy Keenan in his Mitsubishi EVO 9 and lending an international flavour to this event.
Local Mitsubishi EVO driver Jonny Leonard will be a real dark horse and can be counted on for a podium finish at the end of the day.
Other local crews include Scott Thompson and Darran Flanagan in their newly-built Corsa which performed faultlessly for them on the recent Sunset Rally.
Another innovation introduced this year is that Trophy Rally Rules will apply which will permit a crew to rejoin the second leg of the event after an early mishap.
A very popular move by Enniskillen Motor Club repeated from 2012 is that cars up to 1650cc will run at first on the road.
Rally HQ is The Enniskillen Hotel and the Service Park and Scrutiny venue will be the old Grosvenor Barracks on the outskirts of Enniskillen with rally programmes available there also.
Rally fans will be able to see their heroes up close at Scrutiny this evening from 7-9.30pm and tomorrow morning from 06.00-08.30.
