Newry snap up striker Adamczyk
LOUGHGALL striker Lukasz Adamczyk is on his way to Newry City after agreeing a two-year deal with the Bordermen.
The Villagers striker will put pen to paper on the deal on Monday after finalising terms with City boss Gerry Flynn.
Flynn has been keen to bolster his attacking options ahead of the new Premiership season, especially after Lee Feeney rejected a new contract with the Showgrounds club.
The arrival of Adamczyk will also buffer the blow of Aaron Callaghan’s snub last week - the Dungannon defender having opted to sign for Lisburn Distillery.
“I am delighted to have Lukasz on board. he is a quality player who scored a lot of goals for Loughgall in the Championship last season,” Flynn said.
“I also remember him playing against us in the Co-operative Insurance Cup, and I have had him watched a number of times since. So all the reviews have been positive.
“Lukasz also showed a great desire to join Newry City, so that in itself ticks a box. He is just what we are looking for.”
Flynn is confident Adamczyk can make the grade in the top flight, after scoring 15 goals to help Loughgall finish third in the Ladbrokes.com Championship last season.
“You have to remember Loughgall paid Glentoran in the region of 5,000 for Lukasz, so that shows you how highly he was rated,” the Newry chief added.
“I believe he will make the step up to Premiership standard quite easily, and I think he can get among the goals next season. It will be exciting to see how he develops.”
And Flynn admitted he is still looking to add to his squad in the weeks ahead.
“We lost out on Aaron Callaghan, which was disappointing. We had agreed terms but then he decided to go to Distillery. That’s football,” he said.
“But I am still targeting a defensive player, and if that can be done then I will speak with the chairman to see if any more players can be brought in.”
Flynn admitted there has been no interest in recently transfer-listed defender Cullen Feeney.
