The Belfast fighter losing on an unanimous decision to Russia’s Vladimir Nikitin in the quarter-finals - when many on lookers thought he had won the encounter.

Conlan looked to have done enough to win the contest but the judges decided otherwise and he was far from happy after the decision was revealed.

“I was here to win Olympic gold and my dream has been shattered.

“But I have a big career ahead of me and these ones are known for being cheats and they will always be cheats.

“Amateur boxing stinks from the core right to the top,” he added.
