Johnston hails Ireland bowlers

FORMER captain Trent Johnston paid tribute to Ireland's bowlers after they secured their place in next summer's World Twenty20 finals in England by squeezing past Kenya at Stormont on Monday.

The hosts will now play The Netherlands in the final of the ICC qualifying tournament on Tuesday after a tense four-wicket victory over the Kenyans in the last four.

"It's a massive achievement for the guys to reach the World Twenty20 finals, and basically it's come on the back of very good bowling performances from Peter Connell, Andre Botha and Alex Cusack," said Johnston.

"Our batting has probably been a big disappointment but our bowling has been first class, absolutely outstanding, and way above any other team I have seen in th e tournament."

Ireland will start as favourites for today's final, especially as the Dutch are without their talisman, all-rounder Ryan ten Doeschate, who has returned to England to play for his county side Essex.

Kevin O'Brien was Ireland's hero against the Kenyans. After taking two for 15 with the ball, the Railway Union all-rounder made an unbeaten 17 from 16 balls to take Ireland home with five balls to spare.
