Justin McCarthy to be named as Limerick hurling manager

JUSTIN McCarthy is to become the new Limerick senior hurling manager. The Limerick Leader has learned that the former Waterford manager could be proposed for the position at next Tuesday night's County Board meeting.

The only item on the agenda of the October 7 meeting was to ratify "Lifting The Treaty" - the blueprint for the future of Limerick GAA.

However, it now appears that the name of Justin McCarthy could be proposed for the position of Limerick senior hurling manager, in succession to Richie Bennis.

McCarthy was interviewed for the position on Thursday evening and sources within Limerick suggested that the Cork native is now the choice of the seven-man selection committee.

The Limerick Leader understands that all other interviewed candidates have now been contacted by the County Board to make them aware of their decision. Along with McCarthy, outgoing manager Richie Bennis, Tony Considine, Gerry Molyneaux, Pat Herbert and Eddie Murphy were interviewed for the job.

The selection committee comprised of Limerick GAA chairman, Liam Lenihan, Limerick GAA secretary, Mike O'Riordan, Limerick GAA Treasurer, Owen Hayes, Oliver Mann, Jim Dooley, Louis Quirke and Jimmy Stapleton.

Limerick GAA officials are to liaise with Justin McCarthy over the weekend to finalise his selectors.
