BRIAN Magee is at the gateway to the big-time.
The WBA Interim World Super-middleweight champion defends his title against Rudy Markussen in Denmark on February 18 knowing that this is the most important fight of his 40 fight career.
Victory would be a green light to well rewarded mega fights, while defeat would be a red light to his chances of making the pinnacle of the division.
There is always a thin line between success and failure in sport and Magee knows it’s all or nothing against Markussen.
“I am on the verge of something huge and when I beat Markussen I will have a number of choices of who I will fight next.
“There are huge fights out there for me and I know that if I beat Markussen those fights will be within my grasp.
“Fights against the top guys in the division will be on the cards in the coming months.
“But Markussen is in the same position. If he beats me he will go on to bigger and better things,” said Magee.
And the Lisburn southpaw - who claimed the Interim title in Costa Rica last summer - says he has thought who could be next up.
“I feel as if I am living the dream at the minute, but I have worked very hard to get into this position and I believe I deserve to be here.
“Have I thought about fights against Andre Ward, Mikkel Kessler, Carl Froch, Kelly Pavlik and the like?
“Of course I have, but I am totally focused on Markussen because if I take him for granted the dream will be over.
“Huge fights are out there for me - but I have to see off Markussen - and I am sure he is not turning up to make up the numbers,” said Magee.
And the former British and European champion says he has no worries on fighting in Markussen’s backyard,
“Travelling doesn’t faze me at all. This fight is actually great because it is more or less only over the road compared to where we have been lately. It is like a home fight.
“It is a quick flight and there is not much to worry about at all.
“I have no problems travelling to Denmark. I am a seasoned traveller. I will be bringing my own army of followers so I won’t be without support.”
Magee is also convinced he has the tools to take care of the hard hitting Markussen.
“My confidence comes from my years of experience against the best in the world and I am boxing better than ever.
“I believe I have more boxing skills than Markussen.
“I have been training since November and all over the Christmas and New Year, but I have done that before.
“Training has gone very well and I am ready to deliver against Markussen,” said Magee.
