Paul Pollock gave a world class exhibition of running to win the Powerade Queen’s 5K Round The River Race in front of a field of 630 athletes.
27-year-old Pollock from Annadale came to the event fresh from his brilliant run at the World Half Marathon Championships in Copenhagen and wasted no time in hitting the front.
In the early stages he had only Conor Bradley for company but by half distance was absolutely on his own.
He came to the bell well clear of a group containing Scott Rankin, Glenn Phair and Andrew Agnew and went on to win comfortably in a time of 14 minutes 20.
Phair just took second in a photo finish with Rankin with Agnew, Gareth Hill and top junior Andrew Wright following.
Michael Johnston was next just ahead of Ulster and Irish U15 and U16 champion Christy Conlon.
Ann Marie McGlynn was also impressive in the ladies race which she led from the very first stride. She came through well up among the leading men and went on for an easy victory.
The European Championship runner was followed by her Lifford team mate Natasha Adams with Glasgow Universities Lauren Quee placing third.
