‘Mighty’ John Quinn roared to success in the County Antrim Bowls Club’s Short Mat singles tournament, sponsored by W & M Lorimer, fuel distributors.
The Ballylennon man was just too hot to handle, which culminated in a 13-4 win over Uel Gordon (Ballinrees) in the final.
Quinn is only the second winner of this prestigious event that attracted over 200 starters. He succeeded Dungannon’s Ian Hobson, who triumphed in the inaugural competition.
The big Donegal man negotiated his way through to the quarter finals, where he stormed to a 10-4 victory over Brian Trimble (St Bridget’s, Glengormley).
Noel Graham (Loughaghery) was then dismissed in the semis, beaten 8-2, before Quinn finished the job with that victory over Gordon.
“We had another fantastic response,” said Co Antrim’s Rod Coleman.
“Once again we are indebted to our sponsors, Lorimer Fuels, for their loyal backing.
“Next up is our Christmas short mat triples, which was a great success last year.”
