The cross country action tomorrow is at Gransha Park, Derry where 250 athletes are expected to contest the North West Championships.

The meeting includes the fifth round of the Athletics Northern Ireland League with City of Derry, Foyle Valley, Springwell and North Down leading the standings.

Declan Reed from City of Derry has been suffering from injury but will hopefully spearhead the side along with Alan Bogle.

Foyle Valley are expected to have Waterside winner Keith Shiels, Malcolm Cup runner up Scott Rankin along with Chris McGuinness and Pius McIntyre.

Springwell will have Richie Nicholls third at Ballyclare and Neil Johnston while North Down will be led by Jamie Budde and Francis Marsh.

Conor Magill and Alan O’Hara will head North Belfast while Brendan Teer from East Down and Andrew Annett of Mourne Runners can place highly.

There is a possibility that former Irish champion Gary Murray of St Malachy’s on the come back trail will compete along with Rostrevor winner Ciaran Doherty from Letterkenny.

The Ladies race won by Gladys Ganiel-O’Neill last time should be closely contested.

The organisers were hoping to have World tri-athlon star Aileen Reid in the line up but she is a doubtful starter.

Springwell lead the Ladies League and will have Ballyclare winner Eimear Mullan, Gemma Turley and Alison Rankin.

City of Derry will have Maria Campbell while North Down will be led by Jessica Craig.

Cathy McCourt, silver medallist in the Veterans International may fancy the trip while Karen Alexander, Michelle Sturm and Denise Toner can also be prominent.

Entries will be taken today at U3A Foyle Buildings at Gransha and the timetable is: 11.45am U12 Boys and Girls 1K; 11.55am U14 Boys and Girls 2K; 12.10pm U16 Boys and Girls 3K; 12.30pm Open Men and Women, U18, U20 and Masters 6K.
