Queen’s University suffered a disappointing home defeat against Naas in Ulster Bank Division 1A at the Dub paying for failing to score with the aid of the elements in the first half.

Queen’s wasted an early opportunity to take the lead when out half Ali Wright pushed a second minute penalty wide.

Naas broke the deadlock on 12 minutes with a penalty from scrum half Peter Osborne.

Naas increased their lead five minutes later with the game’s opening try.

They kicked a penalty to the corner, from the lineout they caught Queen’s napping as Charlie Kings through the ball to prop Robert Bryan at the front of the line and he returned it to the hooker to run in unopposed but Osborne missed the conversion.

Wright squandered another chance to put points on the board for the students when he was off target with a 29th minute penalty after Naas were guilty of having hands in the ruck.

Queen’s had captain Josh Atkinson sin binned on 36 minutes and Naas kicked the resulting penalty to the corner but knocked on from the driving maul after the lineout.

Queen’s had the final chance of the first half when they were awarded a penalty under the posts but took a quick tap but butchered the try scoring opportunity although the visitor’s defence weren’t back 10 metres and Naas held out to go into the interval with a 17-0 lead.

Osborne was wide with a long range penalty nine minutes after the restart.

Osborne nudged the Leinster side further ahead with 56th minute penalty as Queen’s were punished for having hands in the ruck.

Queen’s enjoying a lot of possession but made lead headway playing into the strong wind.

Osborne took advantage of more Queen’s indiscipline to landed a penalty on 71 minutes and was on target again a minute later with another successful kick.
