SIX NATIONS: Andrew Trimble enjoying being back in Ireleand jersey

Trimble picked up and winners medal in 2014 but missed the whole of last season's campaign with toe injury and didn't return in time to prove his fitness for the world cup in the autumn.

“I have really enjoyed getting back in the mix and there is really something about just even a bus trip on the way to a game seeing supporters getting behind you, the weekend of a Six Nations game you bump into people in the street and everybody is excited about the game saying well done or hard luck and I have missed that and I have really appreciated getting that kind of support,"said Trimble.

“We could have won at Twickenham and talking about results that didn’t go our way if this that and the other had of went our way we could have been in a different position but this team is capable of producing big performances.”

“It is an environment I love being in and it brings the best out of you and I want to be here as long as possible.”

Trimble scored a try against Italy his 17th touchdown at international and overall was pleased with his overall contribution in the five games.

“I’m pleased but there are definitely a few things I need to work on I’m looking forward to getting back to Ulster and getting going again, test match rugby you don’t get as much ball in hand you have a lot less time and space and defences like Scotland, Wales and England put you under a lot of pressure and wingers don’t get a lot of ball so test match rugby is about doing the basics very well and if I can bring that principle back to Ulster and build on it a bit, I want to continue to improve.”

Ireland wrapped up a disappointing defence of their title with an entertaining victory over Scotland.

“Last week was just a confidence booster for us to get back to winning ways and get back to scoring tries and stretching teams through phase play, we did that a bit today but it was more difficult with the Scottish line speed I think we dealt with that really well kept the passes short and kept guys hinged looked after each other well”

“The communication was good we put the ball through a few times found the space and I think we were pretty pleased with what we did with ball in hand, we contained them quite well in their half and we could have put a little bit more line speed they held onto the ball for long periods and it was difficult to get the ball of them, generally we are pleased with the performance.”

“We have to take the momentum we have built up over the last two weeks to South Africa.”
