Andrew Warwick a new face in the Ulster mix

Ballymena prop, Andrew Warwick who is included in the Ulster panel

  • by Richard Mulligan

Ballymena prop, Andrew Warwick, has been named for the first time in an Ulster provisional squad ahead of Friday night’s RaobDirect PRO12 match against The Ospreys at Ravenhill.

The 21-year-old has previously represented Ulster at Schools’, U20 and Ravens level and this is a progressive step for him and Ulster.

The Ulster management named a 25-man extended panel ahead of the game which included skipper Johann Muller, fellow lock Dan Tuohy and centre Luke Marshall. The trio are all returning from injury.

As expected prop, John Afoa and fullback, Jared Payne, are not included in the panel, but both are understood to be returning from New Zealand early next week.

Ulster still hold an 11 point gap at the top of the PRO12 league after suffering just one defeat in the opening 13 rounds of the competition; 10-24 away to Munster in December.

Ospreys have now gone four successive matches without a win in all competitions; however in the RaboDirect PRO12 the Welshmen have suffered just one reversal in their last 10 encounters.
