Changes expected in Ulster side to face Cardiff

Chris Henry is set to be involved for Ulster against Cardiff

Chris Henry is set to be involved for Ulster against Cardiff

  • by Richard Mulligan

Head coach, Mark Anscombe, is likely to bring a number of players who have yet to appear in the Ulster shirt this season into his side for Friday night’s game away to Cardiff Blues in the RaboDirect PRO12.

Chris Henry, Dan Tuohy, Tommy Bowe and Paddy Wallace are expected to be involved in some way as Ulster resume their league campaign.

Ulster had hoped to bring some of the players in last week for the away game against Zebre, but the game was postponed following the Spence family tragedy.

Anscombe will be looking to give as many players as possible pitch time ahead of the opening Heineken Cup rounds next month.

And he will again deploy his rotation system and that will mean Stephen Ferris will not be involved against Cardiff.

With Robbie Diack still on the injury list, Chris Henry is likely to come into the back row, although Mike McComish could also be in contention after a good display against the Ospreys.

Henry and Tuohy as well as Bowe are all likely to start from the bench as they are integrated back to the game.

Rory Best and Roger Wilson are both still on the injury list, with the Irish hooker potentially due back next week.

A number of players will be released to their clubs this weekend as the All Ireland League gets underway, Adam D’Arcy confirmed as starting for Belfast Harlequins against UCD.
