Two tries from winger David Egner helped Grosvenor to a deserved McCrea Cup final win over defending champions CIYMS at Ravenhill.

The Kukri Qualifying Two side were worthy of their victory and the margin would have been great but they missed 11 points from the kicking tee.

Grosvenor lead 13-7 at the break.

Egner opened the scoring on 11 minutes with an unconverted try when he gathered a kick which the CIYMS defence should have dealt with and raced under the posts.

Scrum half Michael Wilson darted over from close range and Michael McComb converted to give CIYMS the lead.

Centre Jamie Meaklim restored Grosvenor’s on 30 minutes with an unconverted try and out half Peter Davison extended their advantage at the interval to six points with a penalty.

Egner sealed the victory when he went over for his second try from his own 10 metre line and Davison converted.

CIYMS staged a late fight back and were given a life line when full back Robin Brown went over on 69 minutes but despite a flurry of laste penalties they were unable to breach the Grovensor defend again.

Adding interest to the cup final showdown was the fact Grosvenor share ther CIYMS grounds at Belmont.
