Fullback Simon Zebo felt Ireland were masters of their own downfall against South Africa at the Aviva Stadium when they squandered a 12-3 lead to lose 16-12.
“I thought we had a bright opening half and we felt good going into the changing room. In the second half we made a few silly errors and they kind of squeezed us into playing their game, they just kept knocking over the scores and just pipped us at the end,” said Zebo.
“We just have to take some things from the game that we didn’t convert into scoring tries and we have got to look at that ahead of the Fiji game.”
Zebo a wing with his province Munster was asked to play full back and he hopes his versatility can help him add to his two caps.
“I just wanted to get my hands and I felt comfortable playing at fullback after about 10 minutes because they were putting the ball up at me straight away.”
“There was always a bit of nerves going in against the second best team in the world at full back, they are known for testing people under the high ball and considering it was only my second cap there were extra nerves but after the first five minutes it was still the same game of rugby you’re playing whether I’m on the wing or at full back.”
“I’d a chat with Rob Kearney and Felix Jones during the week and they were giving me a few pointers and that kind of helped.”
“If I can get any jersey playing for Ireland I’ll be happy, my preference would be for the wing and the No 11 shirt but I can see me playing at full back and that’s an extra factor to my game.”
