Ireland’s Six Nations Championship bid remained firmly on course after a dominant display yielded a thoroughly deserved victory over the defending champions, Wales, in the Aviva Stadium.

It was a massive display from the Irish pack which paved the way for the victory with Rory Best, Paul O’Connell, Chris Henry and man of the match Peter O’Mahony in outstanding form in the green jersey.

Outhalf Jonathan Sexton, whose kicking from hand may have been wayward, kicked two penalties from three attempts in the first half and added the extras to Henry’s 32nd minute try for a 13-0 lead at the break.

The Racing Metro outhalf kicked two more either side of a Leigh Halfpenny effort midway through the second half before making way for Paddy Jackson.

A final big surge from the Irish pack saw Murray feed Jackson and he went in for a try, which he converted to put the icing on the cake for the Irish – with Mike Phillips’ sin-binning putting a cherry on it for the home fans.
