Ireland stars Best and O’Driscoll to miss November tests

Ulster and Ireland hooker, Rory Best, has been ruled out of the November Test series due to injury, along with Irish skipper, Brian O’Driscoll.

As speculated by the News Letter on Tuesday, Best’s neck injury sustained against Dragons in Ulster’s RaboDirect PRO12 win in Newport was more serious than first thought.

Following a scan and medical review, it was confirmed on Tuesday afternoonthat Best has sprained ligaments in his neck which will require a rest and rehabilitation period of up to six weeks before a further assessment of the injury.

O’Driscoll picked up an ankle injury in the PRO12 victory against the Cardiff Blues.

Following further scans and specialist review by the Ireland medical team, it has been decided that the injury will require surgery to repair ligament damage, ruling out O’Driscoll from playing for 8-12 weeks.
