Stephen Ferris remains on course for Scarlets match

Backrow forward, Stephen Ferris, will make his return to playing with Ulster against Scarlets in the RaboDirect PRO12 at Ravenhill on Friday, March 14.

The News Letter revealed this week that the 28-year-old British Lion had finally won his battle with an ankle injury having not played since November 2, 2012.

While no targets had been openly set for Ferris, it was always hoped he would make a return to playing during the Six Nations window for his club.

Ferris’ return to contact training after building up his fitness levels gives him an opening next week against Scarlets in a rearranged PRO12 game – he will be named on the bench.

However, speculation that he may get some game time in the shadow inter-pro for Ulster Ravens against Leinster on Monday in Belfast has been ruled out.

The News Letter understands he will not feature in the game at Belfast Harlequins Deramore Park.
