Defending Heineken Cup champions Toulon are understood to be chasing the signature of Ulster’s South African scrum-half Ruan Pienaar for next season.
Pienaar is due to come out of his Ulster contract at the end of June 2014, and while there has been speculation he may extend that by a year further, French sports paper L’Equipe, claimed on Tuesday Toulon had already made the 29-year-old an offer.
Currently playing with South Africa in the Rugby Championship, Pienaar is not expected to line-out for Ulster until next month when his first game back would be against Leicester Tigers in the Heineken Cup.
While Toulon have an abundance of quality currently at scrumhalf, Pienaar can also be deployed as outhalf and Jonny Wilkinson could be retiring from the club game at the end of the current season.
Ulster Rugby do not, as a rule, comment on contractural matters.
