Ulster coach Mark Anscombe refusing to panic in RaboDirect PRO12 League

NO PANIC: Mark Anscombe

NO PANIC: Mark Anscombe

  • by Richard Mulligan

Ulster will finish their mini block of fixtures in the RaboDirect PRO12 at Ravenhill on Friday night when they look to complete the double over Benetton Treviso at Ravenhill (7.05pm).

They had an 11 point lead going into the series of four games, but with only one win from three they had their advantage cut to three points.

Glasgow and Leinster were closing in on the long term leaders after the Scots beat Ulster last Friday night and Leinster picked up a handsome victory over Scarlets to move within five points.

Given the current dip Ulster have experienced, a home game at Treviso offers a major opportunity to get back on the horse and go into the two week break due to the business end of the Six Nations in as strong a position as they currently are.

“We have to nail the game on Friday night,” insisted Anscombe.

“We need a performance that delivers the win. We have not been on our game in recent weeks and it is disappointing.

“We have been reeled in. We were 11 points clear, now it is three points.

“But these things will happen during a long season. You will not go through a 22-game campaign with a 10 point gap in any competition at this level.

“We would be happy if we led by one point from round one right through.”
