Ulster name provisional panel ahead of crucial Heineken Cup French trip

Ulster's Roger Wilson

Ulster's Roger Wilson

  • by Richard Mulligan

Roger Wilson will start at No 8 for Ulster in Saturday’s crucial Pool Four Heineken Cup clash against Castres in Stade Pierre Antoine.

Wilson is a straight replacement for the injured Nick Williams, who was ruled out for eigth weeks with a knee injury suffered in the 23-6 win over Glasgow Warriors last Friday at Ravenhill.

Ulster named a 26-man provisional squad on Tuesday ahead of the game which they must win. The Irish Province have already secured their place in the last eight as pool winners, but to be certain of a home draw they have to win with a bonus point. A regulation win would leave them sweating on results from other pools to see if they would secured one of the top four places.

Nigel Brady has been added to the list of forwards while Niall O’Connor is included in the backs.

Forwards: Callum Black, Tom Court, Declan Fitzpatrick, Nigel Brady John Afoa, Rob Herring, Rory Best, Lewis Stevenson, Iain Henderson, Neil McComb, Mike McComish, Chris Henry, Robbie Diack, Roger Wilson.

Backs: Ruan Pienaar, Paul Marshall, Michael Heaney, Paddy Jackson, Paddy Wallace, Darren Cave, Michael Allen, Craig Gilroy, Andrew Trimble, Chris Cochrane, Jared Payne, Niall O’Connor.
