RUGBY: Ulster quash Best injury claims

Ulster dismissed claims that Rory Best is set to be sidelined until Christmas.

The Ulster and Irish skipper went off injured on Friday night early in the second half of the 27-26 win over Ospreys as the new Magners League season got underway.

At the time it did not look overly serious and although he went straight to the changing rooms, he was on the pitch at the end of the match celebrating with his team-mates after a memorable win over the defending Magners champions.

Claims yesterday that Best had suffered a recurrence of the neck injury which required surgery just over a year ago and was set to miss the Ireland November Test series were refuted by Ulster yesterday.

A spokesman for the club, while admitting Best may be doubtful for the Ulster game in Italy against Aironi this weekend, said the hooker would be reviewed today or tomorrow.
