With just over three weeks to go until the closing date for entry, runners are being urged to sign up for the 2014 Titanic Quarter 10K.
This year’s race is taking place on Sunday, 6th April, and, with over 700 entries already confirmed, the event looks set to once again attract one of the biggest fields of any 10K run in Northern Ireland.
The TQ 10K is the official warm-up race for the Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon and this year’s race date – almost exactly four weeks before the marathon – will fit in with marathon runners’ training schedule better than previous dates have.
The race, sponsored by Titanic Quarter Limited and organised by Athletics NI, will follow the same route as last year, starting and finishing at the public realm space at Abercorn Residential Complex (ARC).
Denise Shields, of Titanic Quarter, commented: “We are gearing up for another busy spring and summer of headline sporting events at Titanic Quarter.
“The eyes of the sporting world will be on us when the Giro D’Italia international cycling race comes to Titanic Quarter on 9th May, while the Circuit of Ireland Rally is launched here on 17th April.
“The TQ 10K is our signature sporting event and race day is always one of the most exciting and colourful days of the year at Titanic Quarter.
“The race’s popularity has been on an upwards trajectory since its debut year in 2006 and we would encourage runners to go online and sign up for this year’s race as soon as possible.”
Stephen Scullion followed up his 2013 Irish National 10K Championship victory to win last year’s TQ 10K men’s race, crossing the line in a time of 30 minutes and 42 seconds for his second TQ title in three years.
In the ladies’ race there was a reverse of the previous year’s result, with Pauline Curley of Tullamore taking the honours in a time of 36 minutes and 29 seconds, just seven seconds ahead of Dromore’s Julie Turley in second.
Entry forms are available from Athletics NI, other athletic clubs and leisure centres. Online entry is available at www.athleticsni.org,
