Shane McGuigan believes Carl Frampton will silence Kiko martinez

READY: Carl Frampton
READY: Carl Frampton

Shane McGuigan is not interested in what Kiko Martinez has been saying before the Spaniard defends his European title against Carl Frampton at the Odyssey on Saturday night.

Martinez has been predicting that he will ‘knock Frampton out’ and that ‘Frampton will not hear the final bell’ when they finally meet at the Belfast venue.

And McGuigan - who has been overseeing Frampton’s training in England over the past few weeks- says talkwill count for nothing when the first bell rings.

“It is just hype and maybe he is just tryimg to convince himself.

“I don’t think he really believes that and when Carl tags him early on he will regret saying the things he has been saying.

“He has been saying quite a lot recently, but at the press conference and the weigh-in this week, Carl will see the doubt and vunerability in his eyes.

“Kiko does not want this fight, bur he has to fight Carl now. he has no choice,” added McGuigan.

But McGuigan admits that ‘The Jackal’ must be wary of the power Kiko’s has in his armoury

“Carl will have to be switched on for the whole fight. Kiko has power but then so has Carl.

“I just think Carl is sharper, fitter, stronger and just a better boxer than Kiko and he will win the fight.

“With every training camp he gets stronger and fitter and he will show that at the Odyssey.

“We have introduced a few more things for this fight, that we have been working on in training and Carl is in the best shape of his career for this fight.

“I think Kiko will be surprised by how good he really it. Training has gone really well. The sparring has been spot-on and he has done a ten week camp for this fight, instead of the usual eight.

“Carl is flying and he will be crowned European champion on Saturday night,” he added.

Martinez has been in America training for the fight under the watchful eye ot current World champion Sergio Martinez but McGuigan says that means little.

“He has been in America getting some conditioning work and he will be fit for this fight.

“But Kiko always fights the same way,. He marches forward and throws shots in clusters.

“Those shots carry power but will he want to march forward when he finds out how hard Carl punches? I don’t think so,” he added/

And McGuigan says he is delighted to coming back to Belfast.

“It will be a great night of boxing. The Martin Lindsay versus Lee Selby is a very interesting clash. There are loads of great fights on the bill but I will not sse any of them because I am focused on Carl against Martinez.”
