Stephen Scullion has been added to the Irish team for the European Indoor Track and Field Championships in Gothenburg, Sweden this weekend.

The former Northern Ireland 1,500 and 5,000 metres champion ranks third in the 3,000 lists with his 7 minutes 58.11 in the Birmingham Grand Prix behind winner Mo Farah.

The selection of the third runner in the 3,000 was expected to be close between Stephen and National champion John Travers but with David McCarthy pulling out because of illness both will now join Ciaran O’Lionaird in Sweden.

MEANWHILE City of Derry and North Down came out on top in the final rankings of the 2013 Athletics Northern Ireland Cross Country League.

The mens contest was very close between City of Derry and North Belfast. Derry led for the first two rounds then North hit the front at the Malcolm Cup.

They were level after the North West Championships before the Derry side finished strongly to win by eight points. Springwell improved all the way to take third.

North Down and City of Derry alternated the ladies league before top finishes at Antrim and Stormont gave North Down the title. Springwell were again third.

The final placings were - Men: City of Derry 79, North Belfast 71, Springwell 36, North Down 35, Willowfield 35, Foyle Valley 28. Ladies: North Down 76, City of Derry 71, Springwell 52, North Belfast 43, Orangegrove 28, Lagan Valley 18.
