Northern Zone’s Willie McCaw and Aaron Tennant walked off with the top prize in the St Mary’s, Aghadowey, annual pairs tournament.
McCaw and Tennant edged home in a thrilling final, beating North West’s Charlie Mearns and Fiona McDermott 7-6.
Earlier, McCaw and Tennant ended the interest of local duo Margaret and Malcolm Campbell, while the beaten finalists defeated the experienced Edwin Irwin and Nigel Gamble from the Northern zone.
“The tournament, which attracted an entry of 150 pairs, was a great success and we are indebted to everyone who played a part,” said organiser, Jim McIlroy.
Meanwhile, Belmont Bowling Club is hosting its first ever short mat pairs competition.
Nights of play are: Friday, February, 21; Monday (24), Tuesday (25), Wednesday (26), Thursday (27) and Friday (28). Play commences at 7pm each night. Finals will be held on Saturday, March 1.

This is one of the largest singles events on the circuit, having in excess of 250 entries every year. The qualifiers nights are: Wednesday and Thursday, February 26-27; Saturday, Sunday and Monday, March 1-3; and Wednesday 5. Finals night is scheduled for March 12.
