The Wilson brothers, Johnny and DJ, were the top performers in the West Down zone’s National and Ladies Championships, staged in Magherally Parish Hall.
They were joined by their father and combination of Trevor and Jonny Gray and they swept to a 12-3 victory over the Ballydougan rink skipped by Davy Malcolmson in the fours final.
Then the Wilsons teamed up to beat Nigel Hamilton and Seamus Byrne (St John’s Gilford), 13-8 in Section A of the National pairs.
In Section B, Allan Johnston and Daniel Gilliland (St Patrick’s, Donaghcloney) defeated Gavin and William Clinghan 12-8..
The National Triples final produced the best game of the evening with the Martin family -- John, wife Lynn, and daughter Patricia -- edging out the Murphy family, Seamus, son Brendan and daughter Paula 9-8 after an epic battle.
The National Singles produced emphatic victories for Conor McCartan, who enjoyed a 13-7 win against Aidan Magee in Section A while Eddie Campbell beat Ian McBride11-5 in other group.
The Ladies finals also produced some compelling action, with Patricia Martin romping to a 14-3 victory over Ann Polin in the singles.
Polin enjoyed certain degree of consolation in the pairs, where in tandem with Doris Johnston.
She teamed up with Doris Johnston to chalk up a last bowl win (9-8) over club mates Bernie Conlon and Ann Magee.
The triples final produced something of a surprise when the St. John’s trio, Doris Johnston, Nora Kinnin, and skip, Jenny Nesbitt defeated the fancied All Saints triple, May McAdam, Annie Burrell, and Angela Cannaway, 9-8
