The Shankill Leisure Centre was the venue for the Irish FA’s Girls Futsal Cup tournament held over four weeks for Under-11, Under-13 and Under-15 teams from across Northern Ireland.
The annual event was hosted by the Irish FA’s Football Development Department in partnership with Belfast City Council.
The Under-11 teams played each week with no scores kept to allow the girls an opportunity to learn the game in a development environment, while the Under-13 and Under-15 sections were split into two groups with the runners-up and winners of each table making it into the semi-finals.
The Under-13 final between Glentoran Belfast United and Ballynahinch FC provided another opportunity for Ballynahinch’s Aine Smyth to showcase the skills which she had displayed en-route to the final, with Aine scoring both goals in her team’s 2-0 title win.
The Under-15 final was a close encounter with end to end goals with both Crusaders Strikers and Ballynahinch FC scoring two goals each, but in the last minute of the game Crusaders Strikers’ Chloe Doak managed to score the winning goal and secure the title for the Belfast side.
Irish FA Women’s Football Assistant, Jackie Blyth, said: “The Irish FA’s Futsal Cup tournament was a great way for junior clubs to try Futsal and have a quality sporting experience which will encourage them to stay involved in the game.”
