One of country music’s biggest and most glamorous stars, LeAnn Rimes, has confirmed that she will perform at Belfast’s Waterfront Hall on September 10.
Described as ‘the most expressive and technically gifted singer’ by the Telegraph, Rimes, 30, who hails from Jackson, Mississippi, will also play Dublin’s Vicar St on September 12 as part of her UK and Ireland tour following her acclaimed performance at the Country to Country Festival in London earlier this year.
LeAnn Rimes began singing and dancing in local variety shows at age five. Through powerful performances and rich vocals, she quickly built a dedicated following in Texas. At the age of 13 she rose to stardom following the release of her recording of the Bill Mack song Blue, becoming the youngest country star since Tanya Tucker in 1972.
In 1996 Rimes recorded the breakthrough country album Blue selling over 123,000 copies within its first week of release; critics began to note her similarity to Patsy Cline’s vocal style - although Rimes remains an indvidual voice on the country scene, not least for her easy blending of pop elements with more overtly country influences as seen in the work of Taylor Swift. Rimes followed the success of Blue with two 1997 albums: Unchained Melody and You Light Up My Life which featured the hit How Do I Live. To date she has scooped two Grammys and 12 Billboard Music Awards.
LeAnn’s 1999 self-titled album featured classic country standards such as Willie Nelson’s Crazy and Buck Owens’ Cryin’ Time.
Rimes made her motion picture acting debut in the film Coyote Ugly (2000) and recorded four songs for the film’s soundtrack including the UK number 1 single Can’t Fight The Moonlight.
The star’s latest album Spitfire was released earlier this year.
Rimes’ Waterfront show presents a one-off opportunity for Ulster audiences to enjoy seeing one of country music’s biggest stars live on stage.
