LEGENDARY Belfast singer Van Morrison will play an open air gig at Co Down National Trust property Castle Ward later this year.

The performance will be part of the three-day Lough Lively festival at the stately home on the shores of Strangford Lough.

This is a major coup for the National Trust in Northern Ireland, who have said this will be the first time the Brown Eyed Girl singer has ever played at one of its properties.

Speaking ahead of the Castle Ward concert, Morrison said he was looking forward to performing in such beautiful surroundings.

“This is my first concert at a National Trust property in Northern Ireland and what better place to perform than the shores of Strangford Lough,” he said yesterday.

“The beautiful surroundings of Castle Ward should make it an extra special night and I’m really looking forward to being back in Co Down.”

Barbara Muhly, property manager for Castle Ward, said they were incredibly excited to welcome the singer to the stately home.

“We are thrilled to welcome Van Morrison back to Co Down and incredibly excited to host him at Castle Ward,” she said.

“He is an iconic performer and it will make for a special summer evening to have him perform at one of Northern Ireland’s most beautiful places.

“He can be sure of a very warm welcome, and we might even give him some of our special Castle Ward honey to help prepare his voice for the gig.

“Visitors can also be sure of a great evening on the lawns of this incredibly special place. What more could you ask for to start your summer?”

Morrison will perform at Castle Ward on May 26. Tickets are on sale now priced £46, plus booking fee and can be bought via Ticketmaster online http://www.ticketmaster.ie/promo/47ocqi or by calling 0844 277 4455.

A range of VIP packages are also available, including a private reception with Van’s daughter, Shana Morrison, a successful singer-songwriter in her own right.

VIP tickets and offers can be accessed by contacting Castle Ward directly on 02844 881204.

Morrison will also be performing at the Europa Hotel in Belfast on Saturday, March 16 and Sunday, March 17.

The singer released his latest album “Born to Sing: No Plan B”, which was recorded in Belfast, last October. The first single from this album, “Open the Door (To Your Heart)”, was released in August.
