After a four-year hiatus from the UK, the Irish dancing sensation that took the world by storm is to return to Belfast to thrill audiences with its stunning choreography once again.
Riverdance, which began as an interval act in the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest hosted by Ireland, will take to the stage for four nights in January at the Odyssey Arena, with the venue promising an “intimate theatre-style layout” for the performances.
The show, which features mainly Irish dancing but incorporates other cultural styles, including tap and flamenco, has been seen by more than 23 million people across four continents in the two decades since its inception.
Local audiences saw the show for the last time in 2009, when Riverdance performed a “Farewell Tour”.
Originally starring Michael Flatley and Jean Butler as its lead dancers, the show has been a resounding success in North America, Asia, Europe and most recently South America.
Tickets for Riverdance are on sale on November 7 from the Odyssey Box Office (telephone 028 9073 9074) for the shows on January 22-25, 2014.
