Almost 400 tickets for a celebration of the life of Seamus Heaney on Saturday evening were snapped up overnight as hundreds of fans jammed the switchboard at the Lyric Theatre in Belfast.
The informal free event was arranged to allow people to come together at the theatre Heaney, who died on Friday morning at the age of 74, loved throughout his life.
There will be personal tributes, readings from the Nobel Laureate’s poetry and some musical performances during the hour-long event which begins at 7.45pm in the Danske Bank stage.
Lyric Trustee, Stephen Douds said: “There has been an astonishing response to the event which reflects how well-regarded and liked Seamus Heaney was. Regrettably the event is now at capacity.”
