Ulster-based broadcast legend Candy Devine bid goodbye to a string of listeners, friends and colleagues at a farewell evening last night.
The Downtown Radio presenter had been with the station since the very first day it began transmitting in 1976.
She is now preparing to return to her native Australia.
But before departing she was last night being treated to an evening in the company of scores of guests at the La Mon hotel.
Organising it was Ruth Ellis, a life-long friend of Candy’s who had put together the night’s festivities.
There was a dinner, a house band and appearances from the St Agnes Choral Society and soloist Morgan Crowley.
Miss Ellis, from Upper Ballinderry, said yesterday evening that 103 were on the guestlist, adding: “It’s bitter-sweet, because it’s the last hurrah.
“Forty-four years she’s been here – twice my lifetime.
“She says her time here has been a 44-year party, so this is the last night.”
