Limavady girl Rachael O’Connor has admitted she was “terrified” during her performance on BBC One show The Voice at the weekend.

The 17 year-old made it through to the live shows next week with her rendition of Paloma Faith’s ‘New York’ but said she is now out to prove mentor Kylie Minogue made the right decision in choosing her.

Fellow Ulster girl Jai McConnell was knocked out of the competition at the weekend, but Rachael said she is sure it will not be the last we hear from the Belfast woman.

Rachael said she is determined to be more confident as she progresses through the contest, but admitted it is difficult.

“I have to show everyone else I deserved a spot and Kylie didn’t make a mistake (choosing Rachael),” she told BBC’s Nolan Show.

“I was terrified, and I’m pretty sure the rest of the UK watched how terrified I was.

“I’m still a 17 year-old girl from a tiny village who can’t believe this is happening.”

Meanwhile it was announced yesterday that Kylie Minogue will play Belfast’s Odyssey Arena on November 9 as part of her Kiss Me Once tour.

The ‘I should be so lucky’ singer’s tour is set to be a mixture of her new music as well as popular old hits.
