Commenting on the decision, Glengormley Alderman Phillip Brett, chairman of the Planning Committee, said: “I am delighted that approval has been granted for a further phase of the new residential development being built at Ferrard Meadows.

“Antrim remains a much sought after location with a high demand for housing and it is great to offer more options for future residents.

“The scheme represents an investment of some £14 million by the developer and will help assist economic recovery by providing almost 50 jobs during construction.

“The application was processed in under four months and demonstrates the council’s continued commitment to work positively with the construction industry despite Covid-19 and to process major applications speedily something I would like to congratulate our planning team on.”

Agent Tom Stokes told the Planning Committee meeting the development will include a “central village green”.

He indicated that the scheme has been reduced from 220 properties to “deliver family homes in the context of the character of the area”.

He added the development will support the construction sector by providing £14m investment and the existing contractor will be retained on site to “continue as phase four”.

The new homes will be located adjacent to a roundabout junction on the A26 Ballymena Road linking to Springfarm Industrial Estate, Ferrard Meadows, Ferrard Green and The Junction Retail and Leisure Park.
