Children’s charity benefits from James Brown & Sons donation

Local business James Brown & Sons pledged a substantial donation to EastSide Learning/The Scaffolding Project in support of recycling preloved school uniforms in time for the beginning of the new school.

The donation enabled uniforms for schools in east Belfast including Ravenscroft, St Matthews and Sandbrook nursery; Elmgrove, Strandtown, Victoria Park, Dundela Infants and St Matthews primary, Ashfield Girl’s High, Ashfield Boy’s High and Grosvenor Grammar, to be expertly cleaned before being given to parents who may be anxious about using preloved garments in light of the potential for coronavirus to be transmitted on clothing.

Beverley Brown, James Brown & Sons, said: “We work with various groups on a range of initiatives throughout the year which benefit our community. We wanted to offer our support to the Recycle Uniform Scheme as we understood that with many more families experiencing financial difficulties this year, accessing school uniforms was more of a challenge than usual.”

Andrew Neale, James Brown & Sons, continued: “We have a great relationship with the families that live in our area and we are proud that James Brown & Sons made a donation to The Scaffolding Project enabling them to provide families with clean school uniforms. This is just one example of the practical ways in which we help the next generation in our community.”

Barbara Smith of The Scaffolding Project added: “We are grateful to James Brown & Sons for their generous support of the Recycle Uniform Scheme which has helped us to offer the scheme in a way that is safe and accessible for everyone.”

James Brown & Sons has been serving the community of east Belfast for more than 100 years.
