Dodds announces remote learning FinTrU Assured Skills Academy

Economy Minister Diane Dodds has announced a new remote learning FinTrU Assured Skills Academy offering 20 high quality training places.

Participants in the academy will receive industry-relevant pre-employment training from Belfast Met and Ulster University over four weeks. Those who successfully complete the academy are guaranteed an interview for a role at FinTrU.

The entire process will be fully remote – recruitment to the Academy, delivery of training and any subsequent employment with FinTrU, until such times as the company returns to accommodating people onsite.

Highlighting this opportunity, the Minister said: “We are in changed economic times and the impact of COVID-19 continues to be felt. So it is very encouraging that FinTrU continues to expand and my Department can offer these high quality pre-employment training places to 20 people with degrees.

“This is a chance to gain the skills and knowledge needed to start a career in financial services and potentially gain employment with a successful and growing local company. I urge anyone who meets the criteria and who is interested in this area to apply.”

The Minister added: “Assured Skills Academies provide a pipeline of skilled people for local employers, while also upskilling people and enabling them to start or change careers. We are experiencing high demand for Academies and are working to open more in the near future, offering valuable and high quality training opportunities during this difficult economic period.”

Sinead Carville, Chief Human Resources Officer at FinTrU, said: “We are launching applications for what will be our 20th Financial Services Academy here at FinTrU. This represents a fantastic opportunity for those embarking on their professional journey or looking for a change in career to an exciting industry. We have virtually delivered two FinTrU Financial Services Academies in recent months and look forward to welcoming applications from those who are ambitious and want to work alongside some of the world’s largest investment banks.”

The Academy will start on Monday, August 3 and run for four weeks. Training will be delivered jointly by Belfast Met and Ulster University.

Michael Pogue, Senior Lecturer in Financial Services at Ulster University Business School, added: “Ulster University is pleased to be in a position to deliver this Assured Skills Academy during this time. Making use of the latest remote learning technology, we will ensure participants in the Academy gain the knowledge and skills they need to put them in a strong position to enter the field of financial services.”

Louise Warde Hunter, Principal and Chief Executive of Belfast Met, said: “Belfast Met has well established home learning processes for students and we are well positioned to deliver the high quality training needed for participants in this Academy to go on and compete for a role in financial services.”

Applications for the FinTrU Assured Skills Academy are open until July 10. No experience is required but applicants must hold a 2:2 degree or better in any discipline.
