Exciting edible gardens at show

The Garden Village at Balmoral Show provides a dedicated area for green fingered enthusiasts and is set to provide more spectacle with the exciting addition of edible gardens.

There will be a polytunnel erected and filled with edible produce providing a visually interesting and informative display for the general public. In keeping with the NI Year of Food and Drink, show goers will be able to see the food they have on their plate growing in the ground, bridging the gap between farm and fork.

The RUAS are delighted to announce that Westland Horticulture is sponsoring the Garden Village for the 2016 Show. With extensive knowledge in horticulture and firm local roots, Westland Horticulture is the perfect fit for the Balmoral Show and especially the new edible gardens feature.

Keith Nicholson, Marketing Director for Westland Horticulture said: “Westland was founded 25 years ago in Northern Ireland and since then we’ve become one of the biggest garden manufacturers in the UK and Ireland.

“We’re delighted to be pledging our support to the Balmoral Show. This year’s theme, the Year of Food and Drink fits really well with our brands, Gro-Sure and Unwins and Marshalls Seeds. It’s our aim to get more people growing and enjoying their own home-grown produce.”

Come along to the Balmoral Show to see not only the Garden Village but the usual components of fun, food and farming excellence from 11th-13th May.

There is a wide variety of the best livestock on show throughout the showgrounds each day. You will see Beef and Dairy cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, rabbits, poultry, horses, ponies, ducks and pigeons all hoping to get a big red 1st rosette.

Come and see some of the top international riders from home and abroad who will be competing in seven international competitions which take place over the three days. National show jumping competitions will also be taking place on Wednesday and Friday.

Over 60 local food and drink companies are getting ready to celebrate the best of local produce in the NI Food Pavilion at the Balmoral Show 2016.

Launched at Balmoral Show in 1994 Friends of Ferguson Heritage has grown to be the biggest one make tractor club in Europe. Vintage tractors and machinery from times gone by will be on display in the Showgrounds.

There are 700 plus trade stands situated all over the showgrounds. From farm and plant machinery to crafts and food, there are trade stands to suit everyone.

The WI Pavilion located near the NI Food Pavilion has a warm welcome and lovely homemade goodies in their tea room as well as art, crafts and baking exhibits all looking to gain a 1st prize red rosette.
